The Party's Over, It's time to call it a day...

Actually, the party has been over for a week, but the clean-up has continued until now, and possibly a few more days if you take into account all the leftover food we've been trying our best to 'dispose' of, calorie by calorie.

By any standard, it was a great party from start to finish.  And if you don't believe me, here's the video:

Coop Party - The Movie

Even the Meet & Greet party at El Palenque Mexican Restaurant & Cantina on Friday evening was a lot of fun for the 31 who were there.  A couple of others arrived looking for us just as we all left.

One thing is for sure, Friday night's party wet the appetites of everyone for more fun.  And they started arriving at the Chicken Ranch very early to get things going.

I could go on and on talking about the fun but I'll let the soon to be released video tell the story.  Just hang in there and you will be able to enjoy it through photos...

For all of those who came to the Coop Party on Saturday, especially those who cooked and brought items to cook, eat or drink or talk about or share, thanks.  There was certainly a lot of it and it was all very good.  If you tried to count everyone, it would have been difficult because everyone was moving about so much trying to keep up with everything going on.  But some estimates seem to agree that it was somewhere between 60 and 65.  I hope I got all of them in the video.

It wasn't announced ahead of time but My Sweetie was also celebrating her 70th birthday that weekend.  So it came as no surprise that there was cake and candles involved, as well as a few gifts.

So stay tuned here to see the video, or you can probably catch it on the Big Green Egg and Facebook forums.  I'm just waiting for someone's collection of photos and video to add.

And before you ask, No, I don't see another Coop Party in this lifetime...

But this one was fun...

The Day of the Coop Party/Fest is Finally Here

After months in the planning, weeks in the preparation, days in the cleaning, hours in the final set-up, and seconds in the worrying about it, The Coop Party/Fest is here.

It got off to a rousing start last night with a fun-filled and sometimes vigorous gathering of 31 hungry/thirsty friends and relatives at El Palenque Mexican Restaurant in Spring, Texas.

By 8:00 we were pleasantly full and joyously happy. But some of us were also margarita-pickled, tuckered-out tired, bone weary numb and drooply sleepy.

All answered the call to go get some needed rest for Saturday's kickoff of the Coop Party, now just hours away.

We have no idea what the weather (now 40% chance of rain) will bring, but we don't care. Rain or not, this party is ON...

Map:

Parking:

For a lot of reasons, the Chicken Ranch is tucked away up in a little cubbyhole (some call them cul-de-sac's) and there's not much room for parking vehicles larger than a skateboard.  So vehicle parking will be along Teller Boulevard, a 4-lane but lightly traveled divided boulevard only a short walk (or trot if you prefer) to the front entrance (or side entrance if you would like to keep a low profile).
There will be signs and clues to help you locate the party.  And yes, you can pull into the cul-de-sac to load and unload.

Meet & Greet:

A number of attendees will be arriving in town one or two days early.  Some of these folks are accustomed to starting their celebrating hours or even days before the official party.  Therefore, in order to liven up things, there will be an informal Meet & Greet at El Palenque Mexican Restaurant just up the street from the Chicken Ranch and the host hotel.  It's a favorite hangout.  The food is good the Margaritas are good and the service is good.  So we're thinking Friday at 6:00 PM local time would be a good time for all of us to merge there for a few sips and dips and dinner.  You're on your own for what you eat and drink.  The poor economy has put a dent in how much 'fun money' we have laying around.

We'll need a head count by then so we can alert them to our little group of probably 20 to 26.

Here's their web site:

http://www.gopalenque.com/locations/springcypresslocation.html

Food and Drink:

We will have lots of food and drinks available including water, sodas, beer, wine and margaritas.  But it will be limited in brand and quantity.  So if you have any special items you would like to eat or drink, or share with others, bring it on.  We should have plenty of ice and places to keep it cold.  If it is something you plan to cook or serve something you already cooked, you probably should take steps to keep it cold or hot until serving time.

Safety:

This is a residential neighborhood with a lot of children of all ages.  We try hard to keep things tidy and obey all the laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, politeness and common-sense to keep it that way.  Safety is of utmost importance to all of us, as it should be.  So please be extra observant and careful, and obey the posted speed limits (20 mph) throughout the neighborhood.  And, although there will be adult beverages available at the restaurant and party, there is no need for you to operate a vehicle after consuming them if you plan well.  First of all, enjoy your beverage, but in moderation. And making arrangements for a designated driver ahead of time is not only a good thing, it is strongly recommended and appreciated.
